Jonathan, I don't know how you have defined the 20+ values that the CA considered. Nor how to read the dot graphs. I suspect that others are in the same boat. Could you post the definitions of the values considered, and how to read the charts? pecounty.on.ca/pdf/ValuesVisual.pdf

As indicated on the title slide, each member was given an opportunity to indicate their top 8 preferences (with stickies placed on the wall beside the value). The number of dots on each slide indicate their preference. If you'd prefer to see it in a graph form see the second last slide (entitled "Or to put it another way"). The very last slide is a word cloud to visually represent the strength of each value by the size of the font.

OK, I understand that it is the number of dots only, not the positions of the dots.
But what do these words mean in the context of a municipal Council: "greater good", "engagement", "balance", "altruism", etc?
And I'm wondering why "honesty and integrity" was rated a top 8 priority of only 4 of 23 members of the CA? Does this suggest a problem with the prioritizing technique, or did the members consider that another value overlapped -- e.g. "fiscal responsibility" -- or was this not considered a concern re municipal politicians?

The definitions of how these values were defined by the members on their first week can be found on the website here.As to why some values are given lower priority than others, the assembly members quickly realized that some values (such as 'honesty and integrity') were important for a councillor but did not help them answer the question of which values should inform the size of council. In other words, while honesty and integrity is an important value, having it does not help them in their deliberations about council size. Jonathan Rose

Jonathan, thanks for the explanation re "honesty and integrity" -- not an issue for Council size.
